POETIC LYRICS OF TAYLOR SWIFT’S “THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT: THE ANTHOLOGY” AND ITS TRANSLATION QUALITY

Abstract

The digital music streaming platform nowadays is highly diverse and easily accessible like Spotify. Spotify offers their service including the song-lyrics translation feature. However, the quality of the translation is still questionable. Therefore, this study aims to examine the quality of song lyric translation provided by Spotify specifically on poetic song lyrics in Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology” album. This study also aims to identify the types of poetic lyrics according to the theory of Max (2023) and Diyanni (2004). The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative, with the research results showing that there are 41 data types of poetic lyrics classified into three types of poetry. Elegy dominated the data with 29 data, Ballad with 8 data, and Ode with 4 data. The assessment of the types of poetic lyrics translation quality carried out according to Nababan, et al. (2012) has a low accuracy score of 1.9 and a low readability score of 1.5, indicating that the translation result is not yet of good quality.
