Abstract

Language serves as a medium of communication that enables individuals to express ideas or emotions, whether through spoken words or written text. Although oral communication is generally easier to understand, the application of written language often creates challenges for many students in understanding and applying the rules of scientific writing. As a result, this often leads to errors in various aspects of language. The purpose of this research is to find out the types of language errors that commonly occur in writing student papers and identify the factors that cause them so that they can develop better learning strategies in improving the writing skills of Indonesian language class students, Department of Informatics and Computer Engineering, State Polytechnic Jakarta. The research method that will be used in this research The research method that will be used in this study is the descriptive qualitative method. The data in this research was obtained from a review of documents in the form of papers. Based on data analyzed from a total of 1,278 language errors, spelling errors were the main problem, contributing 65% of the total errors that occurred. Effective sentence errors were also significant, accounting for 23% of total errors. Meanwhile, word choice errors accounted for 8%, and paragraph composition errors only 4%. Overall, these data underscore the importance of increasing understanding and skills in spelling and sentence structure to improve writing quality.
