IDENTIFYING TRANSLATION TECHNIQUE AND QUALITY ASPECT OF SLANG WORDS IN HAZBIN HOTEL TV SERIES 2024

This research discusses translation techniques in slang words using Molina and Albir's theory as well as the results of translation quality using Nababan's theory in “Hazbin Hotel” TV series. Allan & Burridge's theory is used to classify the types of slang words. Descriptive approaches are being used in this qualitative study. Data was gathered through focus group discussions (FGD), and it was then examined. This research aims to find out the types of slang words, translation techniques, and translation quality in “Hazbin Hotel” TV series. The results of this research found that 63 data (52.27%) were classified as fresh and creative types, 30 data (27.2%) were flippant, 9 data (8.18%) were clipping, and 5 data (4.45%) were imitative and acronym. There are 6 translation techniques used and adaptation is the most dominant technique with 48.18% of the total data, followed by literal translation at 20% and reduction at 13.6%, established equivalence at 7.2%, and generalization and linguistic compression at 5.45%. The results of the Forum Group Discussions (FGD) show that the translation of the “Hazbin Hotel” TV Series is accurate and acceptable with a total score of 2.77 and 2.86, Overall, the translated message can be understood in one reading well.
