SCADA SYSTEM USING PLC AND VISUAL STUDIO FOR SCADA TEACHING AID IN POLMAN ASTRA

Abstract


This paper purpose about designing and making a SCADA system for SCADA teaching aid based on vocational
education. SCADA is a system which can be used as an ideal supervisor for daily monitoring of what is going on at the
manufacturing plant, acquire data so that can be stored into a server or IoT platform (Internet of Things). Polman Astra
provide understanding to Mechatronics students about SCADA and its application in manufacturing industry based on
Industrial Automation. The expected competence of the students is to understand the SCADA communication between
the PLC and the control application. To achieve this, a SCADA system practicum module is needed. The problem is
that the purchase of the practicum module is quite expensive, including PLCs and licensed control applications.
Therefore, a SCADA system module will be created using PLC and a control application in the form of visual studio
application (software development) which does not need expensive licenses. This application will communicate PLC
with application using Modbus TCP / IP communication protocol which makes it easier because it uses ethernet
network as the connector. Eventually, the expected competence can be achieved.
